Visiting Tesoro High scored three unearned runs in the top of the

seventh inning and concluded the regular season with a 7-4 Pacific

Coast League baseball victory over Corona del Mar Wednesday.

Steve Tinoco’s grand slam in the third for league-champion Tesoro

(20-6, 14-1 in league) erased CdM’s 3-0 cushion.

Senior Wess Presson slammed a solo home run -- his second of the

season -- in the fifth and finished 2 for 3 for the Sea Kings (16-9,

9-6), who will enter the CIF Southern Section Division IV playoffs as

the league’s No. 2 seed.

Jake Lemmerman added an RBI and run scored while junior Taichi

Maeda, making his first career start at first base, went 1 for 3 with

a run scored for the Sea Kings. Austin Elliott tallied an RBI single.

CIF playoff pairings will be announced Monday.

UCI’s Nyberg in 4th

* TRACK AND FIELD: UC Irvine’s Eric Nyberg is in fourth place,

leading a quartet of Anteaters in the top eight, following

competition Wednesday in the men’s decathlon of the Big West

Conference track and field championships at UCI.

Nyberg earned 3,267 points after finishes in the 100 meters

(11.54), long jump (21 feet, 2 3/4 inches), shot put (31-9 1/2 ),

high jump (6-4 3/4 ) and 400 (54.90). Justin Johnson of Cal State

Northridge is the leader with 3,739 points.

UCI’s James Lehigh is fourth with 3,261 points followed by

teammates Aaron Lewis (seventh, 3,117 points) and Trent Richert

(3,085).

The first event is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. today.
