LOCA holds first fundraiser

Laguna Outreach for Community Arts will host its inaugural

fundraiser at 6:30 tonight at Tivoli Too!, 777 Laguna Canyon Road.

The event includes comedy club headliners, gourmet dinner, live

entertainment and a silent auction. Artists Tom Swimm, Ken Auster and

community arts co-founders Mada Leach and Anne England will donate

original works for auction. Other auction packages are valued at

Film Society screens ‘Apres Vous’

The Laguna Beach Film Society’s May presentation is “Apres Vous,”

France’s top-grossing film in 2004. The screening takes place 7 p.m.

Thursday at the South Coast Cinema, 162 S. Coast Highway.

Directed by Pierre Salvodori, this romantic comedy stars Daniel

Auteuil, who received a best actor award for this role. The film has

had limited screenings in the U.S.

Tickets are $15. Most film society screenings include a special

guest that will answer questions. This screening will highlight the

Laguna Beach Community Band and the Orange Country French Alliance as

‘My Fair Lady’ selections performed

Selections from the musical, “My Fair Lady” will be featured at a

7:30 p.m. concert Saturday. Also on the program are the works of

Chopin, Mozart, Joplin, Gilbert & Sullivan; and Gershwin’s complete

“Rhapsody in Blue.”

Soprano Christina Linhardt sings the musical comedy songs; concert

pianist Jeffrey Briar plays the classical and ragtime piano works;

Linda Frank performs on the “Faery Harp.” This event takes place at

the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall, 429 Cypress Drive.

Comedy grads to showcase talents

The Brave Students of Lynn Epstein’s comedy workshop will hold a

graduation showcase at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Laguna Beach Brewing

Co., 422 S. Coast Highway.

In addition to the student’s performance of their own original

material, two special guests will appear: national headliner Kelly

Morton, and Barry Weissenberg. Both are Improv regulars. Cover is $7

Laguna artists open studio night

Laguna Canyon artists will host an open studio night and silent

auction 4 to10 p.m. Saturday. More than 25 award-winning artists will

their diverse and eclectic works.

Proceeds from the silent auction will be donated to Laguna College

of Art & Design’s student scholarship fund. Preview of auction pieces

will be on display at individual studios for ongoing bidding from 4

to 7 p.m.

The event will have live music, performance art, refreshments and

the chance to win a $75 gift certificate redeemable with any

Museum plans progressive sale

The Museum Store at Laguna Art Museum will hold a progressive

summer clearance sale for museum members and non-members.

On Friday, May 20, everything in the store will be 50% off to

museum members only. From Saturday, May 21, to Friday, May 27,

everything will be 40% off to non-members and 50% off to members.

From Saturday, May 28, to Friday, June 3, everything will be 50% off

for everyone.

From Saturday, June 4 to Sunday, June 12 everything will be 60%

off to members and non-members alike.

According to store manager Susan Tucker, “it’s a wonderful time to

start your holiday shopping with significant savings on unique

art-oriented items. Whether it’s books, jewelry, or ceramics, there’s

Gallimaufry holds open auditions

Gallimaufry Performing Arts will hold open auditions for singers,

dancers and actors of all ages for its two summer musicals.

Auditions for “A Chorus Line” will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21 and auditions for “Seussical the Musical” will take place at

11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, both at Legion Hall, 384 Legion St.

“A Chorus Line” will be directed by Steve Josephson, choreographed

by Luis Avila and have musical direction by Roxanna Ward. “Seussical

the Musical,” the compilation of the Dr. Seuss classics, will be

directed and choreographed by Josephson with musical direction by

Avila.

Performers who audition are asked to prepare 16 bars of both an

up-tempo and ballad from traditional musical theater. An accompanist

will be provided. Those auditioning should wear appropriate clothes

and shoes to dance in, and bring pictures and a resume, if available.

Auditions for “A Chorus Line” will begin with an open call dance

audition with call-backs later in the day. All performers in “A

Chorus Line” must sing, dance and act and should be over 16 years of

age. Rehearsals will be Tuesday through Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. and

Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Those auditioning for “Seussical the Musical” are asked to call

(949) 499-5060 to schedule an appointment. There are roles for all

ages: singers, dancers, actors and chorus. Rehearsals will be Monday

through Friday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Younger performers, age 10 and above, will be have the opportunity

to attend a musical theater workshop to help train them in musical

theater techniques in preparation for “Seussical.”.

This is an opportunity for students to learn all aspects of

musical theater. All students are guaranteed to be part of the

ensemble in the summer production of “Seussical the Musical.”

The musical theater workshop runs Monday through Friday from 10

a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Both the workshop and rehearsals for “Seussical”

will be held at the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach.

Rehearsals for both shows and classes begin June 27 and the shows

will be performed in repertory August 4 through 7 in Laguna Beach and

August 13 and 14 in Laguna Woods.

Art and tide pools explored together

Laguna Outreach for Community Arts offers “Art and Sea Adventures:

the Art of Tide-Pooling,” in collaboration with the Ocean Laguna

Foundation.

The program includes a morning of tide pool exploration with Ocean

Laguna Foundation docents, followed by a hands-on watercolor journal

workshop taught by Laguna Outreach for Community Arts resource

artists.

There also will be a watercolor journal, art supplies, postcards,

tote bag, refreshments and more, courtesy of Montage Resort and Spa.

Classes are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Meet at

Treasure Island park, south entrance at South Coast Highway and

Wesley Drive, at the south edge of the Montage, just below the

parking lot.
