Schwarzenegger names boat official

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday announced Costa Mesa resident

Ed Reno’s appointment to the state’s Boating and Waterways

Commission. Reno, 36, is a member of the United States Sailing Assn.

and is a national director for state government affairs for Allergan

Inc., the Irvine-based pharmaceuticals company.

The commission gives advice and consent for the state’s

small-craft harbor loans and boat-launching facility grants.

Reno is a previous staffer for the Schwarzenegger and Pete Wilson

administrations. His appointment must be confirmed by the state

Senate.

Extreme expo will be at fairgrounds

The Extreme Motorsports Expo is making a pit stop at the Orange

County Fairgrounds until Sunday. Exhibits showing off the latest

motor-sports products are spread out across the grounds.

Demo areas are set up to show viewers how the vehicles perform.

Representatives from the U.S. Navy will parachute into the expo today

at 1 p.m. Children can enter contests, ride on a monster school bus

and get autographs from athletes.

The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to

5 p.m. Sunday at 88 Fair Drive in Costa Mesa.
