Council seeks art

board applicants

The Laguna Beach City Council is accepting applications for five

seats on the Arts Commission.

The seven-member Arts Commission meets the second and fourth

Mondays of each month at 5:30 p.m., and advises the council in all

matters pertaining to artistic aspects of the city, including

recommending ordinances, rules and regulations for the administration

and preservation of the fine/performing arts of the community. The

commission also oversees the Art in Public Places program.

Commissioners, who must be Laguna Beach residents, are appointed

for two-year terms.

Four of the seven members must be actively participating in the

arts, and commissioners receive compensation of $60 per month for

their services.

Applications are available at the city clerk’s office at City

Hall, 505 Forest Ave., and must be filed with the city clerk by 5

p.m. Tuesday, June 14. Applicants will be interviewed by the council

at a 6 p.m. June 21 meeting in the council chambers.

Ferguson named chair of college

The Board of Trustees of the Laguna College of Art & Design has

elected Mary Ferguson as the new board chair for the coming year.

Mary was the unanimous choice to assume the leadership role for

2005-06.

Ferguson brings extensive corporate and marketing experience from

her work at the Quaker Oats Company and CitiGroup. Since moving to

Laguna Beach with her husband Joe, Ferguson has worked with several

nonprofit organizations, including the Pacific Marine Mammal Center,

the Arts Alliance and the Pageant of the Masters. She currently

serves as a Laguna Beach art commissioner and recently chaired the

successful Laguna Beach CHOC fundraiser.

Collectors to discuss

collecting treasures

The Laguna Art Museum will present a panel discussion on

contemporary art collecting with collectors featured in the current

exhibition, “Laguna’s Hidden Treasures: Art from Private

Collections,” at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The exhibition’s co-curator and Laguna Art Museum chief curator

Tyler Stallings will moderate.

Admission to the panel discussion is free to members, and free to

non-members with museum admission.

Women’s Club has

bookbinding class

Sue Lieberman will present a bookbinding workshop at 2 p.m. Friday

at the Women’s Club of Laguna Beach, 286 St. Ann’s Drive. The

workshop is presented by Laguna Outreach for Community Arts as part

of the group’s “Art Escapes” program.

Students will create a book suitable for use as a journal,

cookbook, photo memory album or gift and work on page and cover

decoration.

Museum plans progressive sale

The Museum Store at Laguna Art Museum will hold a progressive

summer clearance sale for museum members and non-members.

On Friday, everything in the store will be 50% off to museum

members only. From Saturday to Friday, May 27, everything will be 40%

off to non-members and 50% off to members. From Saturday, May 28, to

Friday, June 3, everything will be 50% off for everyone.

From Saturday, June 4 to Sunday, June 12 everything will be 60%

off to members and non-members alike.

The museum will have extended summer hours until September 14. The

Museum will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 307 Cliff Drive.

Gallimaufry holds open auditions

Gallimaufry Performing Arts holds open auditions for singers,

dancers and actors of all ages for its two summer musicals.

Auditions for “A Chorus Line” will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, and auditions for “Seussical the Musical” will take place at 11 a.m.

Saturday, May 28, both at Legion Hall, 384 Legion St.

Younger performers, age 10 and above, can attend a musical theater

workshop to help train them in musical theater techniques in

preparation for “Seussical.”

Rehearsals for both shows and classes begin June 27.For more

College holds 16th annual fundraiser

Laguna College of Art & Design hosts its 16th Annual Collector’s

Choice Fine Art Event and Exhibition on the grounds from 6 to 10 p.m.

Saturday, June 11 at the campus, 2222 Laguna Canyon Road.

The event features a Fine Art Raffle and Auction. All

ticketholders will have a chance to win a choice of any contributed

piece of artwork in the raffle. Dinner and entertainment are

included. Tickets are $100 each.

The college’s gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, June 6

through Friday, June 10; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 11 to

preview the collection of artwork for Collector’s Choice.
