Hahn struggles early on

* GOLF: Newport Beach Country Club head golf professional Paul

Hahn shot a 14-over-par 86 Thursday and sits in 152nd place after the

first round of the Senior PGA Championship at Laurel Valley Golf Club

in Ligonier, Pa.

Hahn carded a 44 on the front nine followed by a 42 on the back.

His round included nine pars, five bogeys, three double bogeys and a

triple bogey.

Graham Marsh carded a 4-under 68 and leads by a stroke over Dave

Barr, R.W. Eaks, Hale Irwin, a two-time winner of the Toshiba Senior

Classic -- held each March at Newport Beach Country Club, and Tom

McKnight.

Thirty-five club professionals entered the 156-player field, which

will be cut to include the top 70 and ties following today’s second

round.

Hahn tees off at 8 a.m. Eastern time on No. 10 with James Mason

and Tomori Katsuyoshi, his first-round playing partners.

Two weeks ago Hahn was the ninth alternate into the field, but

rose steadily up the ranks. He secured a spot into his first Senior

PGA Championship when D.A. Weibring, already exempt into the major

championship, won the Bruno’s Memorial Classic on Sunday.
