The TeWinkle boys track and field team continued a long-standing

tradition after winning the overall boys division at the Newport-Mesa

junior high league finals Thursday at Corona del Mar High.

The win marks the 21st consecutive year the boys have won.

“We have a rigorous standard of grades and behavior, so it makes

it tough, but this group was incredible,” TeWinkle coach Michael

Jekogian said.

The boys finished with 208 points while Dwyer placed second with

171.9. Sowers was third with 101, Harbor Day was fourth with 97.3,

while Ensign finished with 89.3 and Costa Mesa had 81.1.

In the boys under 5-foot-4 division, TeWinkle defeated

second-place Dwyer by 42 points.

Jervon Glinsey tied the conference record in the high jump after

clearing 5 feet, 2 inches to take first. He also won the 200 meters

in 26.64.

Tommy Price was also a double winner after finishing the 100 in

12.71 and long jump in 14-8.

Dwyer took first place in the girls overall division, seven points

ahead of second-place Corona del Mar (161). TeWinkle finished third

with 139 followed by Costa Mesa (91), Harbor Day (89), Ensign (77)

and Sowers (71).

CdM won the girls 5-4 division with 74 points and the eighth-grade

division with 67.

CdM’s Sarah Keddington was a double winner in the 5-4 division

after winning the 400 in 1:07.42 and 800 in 2:44.85.

Allegra Margois won the 200 in 28.86, while Malayna Kelley took

second in the 400 in 1:08.5.

“They gave their all,” said CdM coach Chris Brude. “They come out

because they want to work. They gave all their dedication.”

The CdM eighth-grade girls won the 400 relay in 56.02, while the

CdM boys seventh-grade team, which won its division, claimed the

relay in 52.28.

Alex Swigert boosted the seventh-grade team after winning the long

jump (16-1), 400 (55.88) and 100 (12.06). Kyle Canale won the high

jump in 5-0.

Harbor Day won the boys eighth-grade division with 71 points,

while TeWinkle finished second with 67.

The Harbor Day boys won the 400 relay in 49.49, while Blaine Bolus

was a double winner in the 100 (12.03) and long jump (19-1).

Costa Mesa’s eighth-grade girls took second place, with Shelby

Herbel claiming first in the long jump (14-3 1/2 ) and Cheyanne Lopez

won the shot put (34-0).
