CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH BOARD VACANCIES

The Newport Beach City Council is looking for qualified electors

from the City of Newport Beach who are interested in serving for a

four-year term on various City Boards and Commissions. A total of 11

vacancies will exist when terms expire on June 30, 2005. The

vacancies are as follows: Board of Library Trustee -- one vacancy;

City Arts Commission -- three vacancies; Civil Service Board -- one

vacancy; Harbor Commission -- two vacancies; Parks, Beaches &

Recreation Commission -- two vacancies; and Planning Commission --

“NEIGHBORS FOR NEIGHBORS”

In celebration of Volunteer Recognition Week, the City of Costa

Mesa will hold its 24th bi-annual “Neighbors for Neighbors” community

clean-up. The program was created 12 years ago to help low-income

residents with the beautification of their homes and to assist in

local community clean-up. Individuals or groups interested in

SENIOR MEALS AND SERVICES

Volunteers at Senior Meals and Services are making a difference in

the lives of Orange County senior citizens, by delivering them

BOARD CONNECTION

Volunteer Center Orange County’s Board Connection program can

assist you in becoming a board member of one of the more than 2,000

nonprofits in Orange County. The Board Connection program consists of

a one-time, three-hour workshop designed to give individuals an

overview of board responsibilities and nonprofits. After the class,

individuals are assisted in finding placement with a nonprofit that

The Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Assn., which helps people who

have the disorder that is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, needs

ALZHEIMER’S ASSN. OF ORANGE COUNTY

Support group leaders, family resource consultants, special event

volunteers, office volunteers are needed. Volunteers may work on

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY

The Orange County Region of the American Cancer Society seeks

office volunteers. The society also seeks volunteers to answer calls

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY DISCOVERY SHOP

The American Cancer Society Discovery Shop needs unwanted goods

such as clothing, furniture, jewelry, accessories, antiques and

collectibles to fund the society’s research, education and

patient-services programs. The goods may be dropped off at 2600 E.

Coast Highway, Corona del Mar. Volunteers ages 16 and older are also

needed to help sort clothes, cashier, decorate, and do computer work

from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the same location.

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY ROAD TO RECOVERY

The transportation program needs volunteers to drive cancer

patients to and from medical treatments free of charge. The required

commitment is a few hours each week or month. Drivers must have a

valid driver’s license and insurance and be at least 25. Volunteers

may use either their own vehicles or American Cancer Society vans.

AMERICAN HEART ASSN.

The American Heart Assn. is looking for volunteers to perform

various general office duties in the main office and implement

The American Home Health Hospice Program needs volunteers to give

emotional support to terminally ill patients and their families in

BEST BUDDIES

The nonprofit organization is looking for volunteers 18 and older

to provide companionship for adults with developmental disabilities.

As a “Citizen Buddy,” volunteers will visit with a buddy twice a

month and call or e-mail them once a week. The organization also has

an e-Buddies program that forms friendships entirely over the

Internet. Volunteers for that program must be at least 12 years old.
