Surf hall of fame announces inductees

The Surfers’ Hall of Fame committee has announced its 2005 class

of inductees, who will go into the hall during a July 29 ceremony at

Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway.

The induction will take place at 10 a.m. at 300 Pacific Coast

Highway.

This year’s inductees are: Robert McKnight, CEO and president of

Quiksilver; Tom Carroll, famed Australian surfer who dominated the

1980s; Mark Richards, who took the twin-fin innovation and claimed

four consecutive world titles, and the late Carl Hayward, a local

surfboard shaper who died earlier this year in his beloved arena, the

ocean.

The Surfers’ Hall of Fame is the first imprint collection of

legendary surfers on the West Coast. Each year the committee, which

consists of business owners, surfers and surf industry professionals,
