Highlights of a wonderful year

Another year has quickly passed by at El Morro and our students will

be moving on to more challenging tasks as they step up to their next

year of school. But before we get ahead of ourselves by skipping to

September, I must make mention of highlights for the last quarter of

this school year.

Our Math Challenge program, sponsored by the PTA, awarded over 300

students with a medal for completing the grade level math books that

follow along our state standards. For most of the students, it was an

additional 100 pages of math above and beyond their class work. It is

a challenge and I am proud of the student’s accomplishments. I would

like to continue the challenge to those students who can still

complete the book over the summer.

We applauded our bus drivers in April to a crowd of their biggest

fans -- all of the students they drive to and from school every day.

We really are blessed to have such wonderful and caring bus drivers.

After our annual state testing, the student council partnered with

PTA to provide Golden Spoon yogurt to every student. The student

council also had a field day of sports at lunchtime. A great way to

unwind!

Our book fairs, presented to our El Morro families twice a year,

allow our students to gear up for summer reading. It is held during

our open house, where we invite all of the families to visit

classrooms and view all of the amazing projects the students have

been working on all year.

The fourth-grade has enhanced Gold Rush and California studies

this year by having a celebration including a play with beautifully

designed sets, dancing, food, singing and much more. A great way to

experience the early days of California.

The fifth-graders and the kindergarteners celebrate the end of the

school year in a special way. As these two grades move on to bigger

challenges and enter a new phase of their lives we celebrate with

them by having graduation ceremonies for both grades.

The last two years as president, have allowed me to participate in

the many activities PTA offers on campus. The joy of being in this

position is in time spent with the students in their many

extracurricular programs. Over 10,000 volunteer hours were recorded

this school year to bring all of the programs together. The success

and enjoyment shared by the students is well worth the investment. I

would like to thank all of the volunteers, community partners and

school staff for supporting the PTA.

So, it is off to summer, a time for relaxation and regrouping. May

you enjoy the time with your family and friends and we will see you

all again next September 6, the first day of school.
