“Summertime and the living is -- SAFE” will be the topic at this

month’s Speak Up Newport meeting. The Newport Beach Police Department

will give a presentation about summertime safety tips with video of

past July 4th’s at the beaches and special safety procedures in

effect for the Fourth of July. Questions and answers will follow the

Join the Assistance League of Newport-Mesa as it celebrates 65

years of service from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the League’s headquarters.

A brief ceremony will include comments by past presidents, agency

partners and former clients. The event will conclude with champagne

toast and birthday cake to be cut by 45-year League member Joc

Hartley. The League’s past presidents in attendance will blow out the

The Goin’ South Band -- musical styles and instruments developed

in the South during the last century, including street jazz from New

A teen pregnancy prevention event is being sponsored by the Camp

Fire USA teens from Costa Mesa. This event will not only address the

issue of teen pregnancy, but also promote awareness on behalf of this

issue -- the teens would like to prevent young adults from becoming

parents too soon. This event will take place from 10 a.m. 3 p.m.,

followed by a carnival with live entertainment and booths at the Save

The Fine Art of Adventure Travel: Sierra Club Fine Art Adventure

photographers and travelers Jack Bohlka and John Lajeuness present

photographs. Lajeuness will share opportunities to see the world on a

Orange county residents can experience yoga nidra firsthand at a

special series of workshops lead by Barbara Templeton. Developed by

Swami Satyananda Saraswati, it is used to counter the negative

effects of stress such as heart disease, anxiety, insomnia, ulcers

and depression. The workshop will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at
