THE COMMISH SPEAKS

Former Major League Baseball commissioner Peter Ueberroth will

serve as the keynote speaker Friday at “Show us the Future,” a sports

conference hosted by UC Irvine’s Paul Merage School of Business. Also

slated to appear at the all-day conference are ESPN reporter Shelley

Smith, sports agent Ralph Cindrich, UC Riverside athletics director

Stan Morrison and former NBA star Adam Keefe.

The event takes place at the Hilton Costa Mesa, 3050 Bristol St.

Breakfast starts at 8 a.m., with a networking reception capping the

DECADES OF ASSISTANCE

The Assistance League of Newport-Mesa celebrates its 65th birthday

from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday at the league’s headquarters. A brief

ceremony will include comments by past presidents, agency partners

and former clients. The event will conclude with a champagne toast

and birthday cake to be cut by 45-year league member Joc Hartley.

GETTING IN THE ACT

Music Theatre Academy of Orange County, a nonprofit children’s

theater group that features student actors, is performing “Fiddler on

the Roof” Friday through Sunday.

This cast is comprised of actors ages 6 to 12, who train at the

Newport Beach center.

Performance times are 7 p.m. Friday; 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday; and 2

p.m. Sunday. The cost is $10, $7 for seniors and children younger

than 12. The show plays at McFarland Hall, First Presbyterian Church,

600 N. Main St., Santa Ana.
