. The Youth Flag Football program for boys and girls ages 8 to 13

starts on Sept. 26 and ends on Dec. 3. The program provides community

kids the opportunity to participate in a noncompetitive flag football

league. Participants will learn the basics, meet new friends and have

“Summertime and the living is -- SAFE” will be the topic at this

month’s Speak Up Newport meeting. The Newport Beach Police Department

will give a presentation about summertime safety tips with video of

past July 4th’s at the beaches and special safety procedures in

effect for the Fourth of July. Questions and answers will follow the

Join the Assistance League of Newport-Mesa as it celebrates 65

Hartley. The League’s past presidents in attendance will blow out the

The Goin’ South band -- musical styles and instruments developed

Alex’s Lemonade Stand will raise money for pediatric cancer

research from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at lululemon athletica, across from

Bloomingdales in Fashion Island. The lemonade stand will be in honor

of John Taggart, 4, who is fighting a rare form of cancer called

neuroblastoma. John’s cancer has relapsed twice and he is now

recovering from a stem cell transplant. There is no set price for the
