Gold Coast Xtreme wins tourney
Gold Coast Xtreme club soccer team, who will move up to under-13
division in the Coast Soccer League this fall, won its division
championship at the Irvine Memorial Cup tournament.
In the championship game, the Xtreme fought back for a 4-1 victory
over Santa Monica United Sparks.
The Sparks had led 1-0 at halftime, but two quick goals to open by
Devon Shinn allowed the Xtreme to take the lead for good.
Halle Bissin scored the final two goals of the match, one off a
pass from Caitlin Fromkneght.
To reach the championship game, the Xtreme knocked off Santa
Clarita United Orange and Mission Viejo United, and previously played
Santa Monica United Sparks to a tie.
Other Xtreme goals for the tournament were scored by Shannon
Wright, Natalie Bergeron, Hanna Mais and Jackie Freiberger, who had
two goals.
Solid midfield and forward play was turned in by Emily Walling,
Alexa Georgatsos, Sarah Wilkinson, Brianna Henderson, and Fromkneght.
Contributing to the defensive effort were Katherine Zeltner,
Nicole Camarillo, Shannon Durkee, Paige Grigus and Aubrey Dawson.
Goalkeeping duties were handled by Bissin and Christina Marquette.
