Student media projects honored

The 39th annual California Student Media and Multimedia Festival

Awards will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Huntington

Beach KOCE-TV studios, 15751 Gothard St., to recognize multimedia and

media projects produced by teachers and students throughout the

state.

Winners will be chosen from more than 6,000 submissions and will

receive a $1,000 award for their school. The projects will be

showcased on three giant screens and student winners will have the

oppor- tunity to give an acceptance speech as they are recognized

with plaques and certificates.

The festival awards began nearly four decades ago as a small,

local competition and has expanded to include students’ work from

across the state. Since the beginning, the festival has awarded more

than $105,000 to California schools.

The festival is coordinated by KOCE-TV, the PBS station in Orange

County, and is sponsored by the California School Library Assn. The

event is free and open to the public.

Organizers request boxers and bacon

The organizers of Marina High School’s June 16 Grad Night are in

need donations for the following supplies: sports drinks, bacon,

brownies or snack food, boxer shorts for boxer bingo, bagels (not

blueberry or nut-based), soda and cases of bottled water. Grad night

organizers are also looking for volunteers to supervise and clean up

the next day. Information: (714) 893-6571, ext. 4402.

Arts academy

seeks sponsors

The Academy for the Performing Arts is seeking sponsors to provide

partial or full grants for children who cannot afford to attend the

APA summer art camps. The APA holds summer arts camps for children in

kindergarten through eighth grade. The camps begin June 21 and

feature musical theater, dance, writing, drawing and photography

instruction. Anyone interested in sponsoring children in need should

contact Heidi Rennison at the Huntington Beach Adult School, (714)
