Day to bid for crown

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo sophomore Sharon Day, a former standout at

Costa Mesa High, cleared 5 feet, 10 3/4 inches without a miss in

Thursday’s qualifying to move on at the NCAA track and field

championships in Sacramento.

Day, the Big West Conference high jump champion whose personal

best is 6-3 1/2 , will compete in the final Saturday at 7 p.m.

Sea Kings in showcase

* BASEBALL: Corona del Mar High seniors Wess Presson, Ben Maggard,

Tyler Alston and Tyler Lance will represent the Pacific Coast League

in the annual South County Showcase at Windrow Park in Irvine.

The CdM quartet will compete against a team of seniors from the

Century Leage at 4:30 p.m.
