Newport Beach police are investigating the death of a man found

near a Back Bay bike trail Saturday afternoon.

A passerby found the body on the trail near Mesa Drive just after

3 p.m. Saturday, police said. The body appeared to be that of a man

in his 40s or 50s, Sgt. Evan Sailor said.

Woman who died in crash was from New York

Authorities on Saturday identified the woman killed during a

traffic collision in Newport Beach on Friday morning.

Bichson Tran, 40, of Albany, N.Y., died in the collision on

MacArthur Boulevard near Von Karman Avenue, Orange County Supervising

Deputy Coroner Rod Thomas said.

Tran was driving her Chevrolet Cavalier south on MacArthur

Boulevard at about 9:30 a.m. Friday, according to police. A van

broadsided the driver’s side of her car when she apparently attempted

to make a U-turn from the right-hand lane, police said.

Another woman in Tran’s car was taken to Western Medical Center

with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Costa Mesa woman, 18, is dead after car hits tree

A Costa Mesa woman died after her car struck a tree in Santa Ana

on Friday night.

Giovana Tang, 18, died shortly before 7:30 p.m. Friday, Orange

County Supervising Deputy Coroner Rod Thomas said. Tang apparently

lost control as she drove on North Fairview Road near 5th Street in

Santa Ana, and she struck a tree, Santa Ana Lt. Joe Kahapea said.
