Irrelevant Week, a Celebration of the Underdog, or “doing
something nice for someone for no reason,” started 30 years ago when
the last draft choice of the National Football League was brought to
Newport Beach and treated like a celebrity while raising money for
local charities. This year, Mr. Irrelevant is Andy Stokes, a tight
end from William Penn University, selected #255 by the World Champion
New England Patriots. This year funds raised will help the Orange
County Burn Assn., a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing
recovery programs for burn survivors and their families. Irrelevant
Week XXX will benefit the special camp for young burn victims in
Northern California. The first event, a welcome party for Mr.
Irrelevant, will be held at 5 p.m. at the Newport Dunes Waterfront
