The United States Geological Survey reported a “moderate” earthquake

was felt across Southern California Sunday. The magnitude 5.6 quake’s

epicenter was about 20 miles south of Palm Springs. A map posted by

the agency showed the shaking was felt from the Mexican border to

Ventura County as well as western Arizona.

Public safety dispatchers said there were no earthquake-related

incidents in Newport-Mesa.

Water Safety Tips

* Child-proof doors to prevent toddlers from going outside

unsupervised.

* Install alarms that go off after a child opens a door or

window.

* A fence with self-latching gate should be installed around a

pool.

* Pool covers or nets can be used to keep children out of the

water. An alarm can alert an adult if a child goes near water without

permission.
