County to test odor control today

The Orange County Sanitation District plans to conduct a test today

that could cause people around Newport-Mesa to see smoke.

The agency is scheduled to use a smoke machine to test the sewer

system’s ability to control odors, according to a release. Smoke

could enter buildings that have plumbing problems. The agency stated

the smoke does not pose a health threat, and the test would be

postponed in the event of rain, heavy wind or other unusual weather

conditions.

Anyone who sees smoke that they believe is related to the test can

call Brian Reed at the Orange County Sanitation District at (714)

720-6959. The district’s Control Center can also be reached at (714)

593-7025.
