Little League District 55

Majors

Newport Beach Padres 7, Lake Forest Red Sox 5: The Newport Beach

Little League Padres advanced to the District 55 Tournament of

Champions Majors final following a 7-5 semifinal victory over the

Lake Forest Red Sox Monday in Laguna Niguel.

Newport Beach will face Laguna Niguel in the championship game at

6:30 tonight at Laguna Hills Sports Park.

Mason Case, having only pitched a combined 4 2/3 innings in the

regular season, tossed a complete game for the win. Case was helped

in dramatic fashion as Padre hitter Blake Thomsen slammed a three-run

home run to center field in the second inning. Gianni Ferrante, who

was 4 for 4 at the plate, followed with a home run in the third

inning to give the Padres a 4-0 lead.

The Red Sox tied the game, 5-5, in the fifth inning, but the

Padres quickly followed with another two runs. The Red Sox loaded the

bases in the last inning with two outs, but the Padres were able to

induce the out and hold on for the win.

Costa Mesa National Little League

Minor B

Dodgers 7, Mets 6: Alex Chairez hit a walk- off ground-rule double

to give the Minor B Dodgers a 7-6 victory over the Mets in the Costa

Mesa National Little League championship game June 7.

The Dodgers, who finished the tournament undefeated, had to rally

twice against the Mets. Erik Rasmussen capped a three-run third

inning with a two-run double. The Mets scored three of their own in

the fourth to take a 6-4 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Rasmussen

and Estefany Ramirez singled with one out. Josh Godwin singled to

score Rasmussen, Davis Fassett walked to load the bases and Chairez

hit a shot that bounced over the fence in center.

Dante Cappocia pitched a scoreless fifth and sixth with four

strikeouts to earn the victory.

Minor A

Dodgers 9, Mets 6: Brad Wilson cleared the bases with a two-run

triple and scored on an error to push the Minor A Dodgers to a 9-6

championship-game victory Thursday. Wilson’s smash in the top of the

fifth inning hit the fence in the left-field corner and broke a 5-5

tie.

Dirk Hollander started the Dodger rally with a single. Dodger

pitchers Cody Stoddard and Levi Stillman each pitched three innings

while Stillman closed the game with a baffling array of curves and

changeups. The Dodgers had ended the Mets’ 13-game winning streak

earlier in the week with a 3-2 victory that forced a second

championship game. The Mets played the final without key players

Manolo Laguna (broken collarbone) and Christian Aguilar(infection).

Met pitchers Jesse Paz and Aaron Wood combined for seven strikeouts.

Sammy Borkton and Max Hume each made great catches in the outfield,

while Brandon Kingsley, Matt Thomas, Brooks Watkins and Spencer Owens

each made plays in the infield.

Farm

Phillies 21, Braves 20: The Phillies’ James Rydjeski finished an

epic Farm division championship game with a sharp single up the

middle to drive in Cole Lapeaux from second base with the winning

run.

Led by sweet swinging Tommy Smith and the defense of Aaron Boitley

and Adam Jeyarajah, the Braves rolled up a seemingly insurmountable

16-4 lead after the top of the fourth. The Braves tied the score in

the fifth and Rydjeski’s single clinched it.

Brad Chandler, Cody Nelson, Frankie Millan and Hunter Roginson

also contributed with hits.
