District 62 tournament opens with upsets

The regular season Little League Majors Division champions found the

going tough Monday in the opening round of the District 62 Tournament

of Champions.

In Area 1 play at Mile Square Park, hosted by Fountain Valley

Little League, Huntington Valley No. 2 ousted Robinwood No. 1, 8-5,

to move on to a second-round game Saturday.

Huntington Valley No. 2 will play the winner of Tuesday’s

Westminster No. 1/Costa Mesa American No. 2 game, at 9 a.m. Saturday

at Mile Square Park.

In Area 2 play at Inspiration Field, home to Huntington Valley

Little League, the Giants, the No. 2 representative out of Fountain

Valley, blanked the Red Sox, 4-0. The Red Sox were the No. 1 team out

of Seaview.

The Giants move on to play a second-round game Saturday at 9 a.m.,

also at Inspiration Field.

Other first-round results:

Minor A Division

In Area 1 play at Mile Square Park, Robinwood No. 1 was a 10-0

winner over Huntington Valley No. 2, and advanced to Saturday’s

second round.

In Area 2 play at Huntington Valley, Seaview No. 1 edged Robinwood

No. 2, 2-1, to move into Saturday’s second round.

Minor B Division

In Area 1 action, Ocean View No. 1 rolled past Costa Mesa American

No. 2, 22-2, at Mile Square Park. Ocean View will play a second-round

game Saturday at 9 a.m.

In Area 2 action, Fountain Valley No. 2 defeated Costa Mesa

American No. 1, 8-4, at Huntington Valley. Fountain Valley will play

its second-round game Saturday, also at 9 a.m.

Senior Minor Division

The tournament, which opened play on Monday, began with Fountain

Valley No. 1 shading Robinwood No. 2, 5-4, at Westminster Little

League. Fountain Valley moves on to second-round play Saturday at 9

a.m.

The tournament continues with first-round play today, area

semifinal play on Saturday, area finals on Monday and district

championship games on Wednesday.

Huntington Valley will host the Majors, Minor A and Minor B finals

on Wednesday.

District 62 is composed of Little League teams from Costa Mesa

American, Costa Mesa National, Fountain Valley, Huntington Valley,

Ocean View, Robinwood, Seaview and Westminster.
