6 youths arrested on suspicion of stabbing

Police ended a two-month investigation with the arrests of six

juveniles suspected of being involved in a stabbing that occurred

April 9 on the city beach.

Interviews with witnesses and stabbing victims led police to

arrest four juveniles at Fountain Valley High School. The other two

juveniles were students at Valley Vista High School and were arrested

at another location.

Police said the stabbing occurred during a large beach party of

about 50 people. The suspects approached the juvenile victims at the

party and a fight broke out, resulting in the stabbing of one victim.

A second victim was hit over the head, possibly with a log, and

stabbed 10 times in the back with an unknown instrument, possibly a

knife, police said.

Both victims are still recovering from injuries suffered during

the attack.

The victims attend local high schools but are not students at the

two high schools where the arrestees attend, police said.

The victims and arrestees are casual acquaintances and the motive

for the attack isunder investigation, police said.

‘Quatro Bandit’ faces 6 counts of robbery

A man, dubbed the “Quatro Bandit” after he allegedly robbed a

Huntington Beach bank and three others in four hours, appeared in

federal court Friday and was ordered to be held without bail.

James McKibbin, 34, was arrested at a Costa Mesa motel June 9,

just hours after surveillance photos from the robberies appeared on

television, Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Amormino

said.

McKibbin faces a total of six counts of bank robbery.

Police believe he robbed banks in Westminster, Huntington Beach,

Tustin and Costa Mesa in less than four hours June 8. That’s an

unheard-of robbery spree in such a short time, Amormino said.

A robber first hit a Washington Mutual in Westminster at 10:45

a.m. June 8. Wednesday. Then, authorities say, he hit a Huntington

Beach branch two hours later.

Only a half-hour later, a Union Bank in Tustin was robbed. The

alleged spree ended at a Washington Mutual branch in Costa Mesa.

Authorities also think McKibbin robbed a Bank of America on May 25

and a Union Bank on June 2, both in Newport Beach.

In each case, the robber calmly passed a note to a teller,

allegedly demanding money and indicating that he had a gun.

Surveillance photos clearly showing the bandit appeared on

television June 9, and the FBI started receiving calls from tipsters.

Costa Mesa police arrested McKibbin at a motel in the 1900 block

of Newport Boulevard and turned him over to the FBI, authorities

said.

He is scheduled to appear in federal court again later this month.
