make a difference in the life of a child, and George and Becky made a

memorable presentation to these future community leaders, introducing

the students and boasting of the youths’ accomplishments.

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL CELEBRATED 100 YEARS

Barbara and I have joined more than 50,000 Rotarians from 165

counties at McCormick Place in Chicago as we celebrate Rotary’s 100th

birthday, beginning today and running through Wednesday.

The Rotary Convention begins with a parade today on Michigan

Avenue with dozens of floats, representing Rotary programs from

around the world, and thousands of marchers dressed in their native

dress.

Rotary District 5320 has the largest number of attendees from the

western part of the United States, including dozens of club members

and spouses from Newport-Balboa, Newport-Irvine, Newport Beach

Sunrise and even the new Costa Mesa club.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF SERVICE CLUBS

Erick Jessen, sponsored by Bill DeMeulle, joined the Exchange Club

of the Orange Coast.

WORTH REPEATING

From the Thought for Today, provided by Greg Kelley of the

Newport-Mesa-Irvine Interfaith Council: “Peace does not mean to be in

a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. Peace means to

be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart.”
