division champion Corona del Mar.

The coach of the year honors went to Sea Kings head coach Steve

Conti.

In prep baseball news:

The Pacific Coast League recently announced its selections to the

2005 All-Pacific Coast League baseball team, and five members of the

Laguna Beach High squad earned honors.

Of the five Laguna athletes, four were juniors, and the other was

a senior.

Junior catcher Noah Brewster was selected to the first team. In

addition to being an outstanding defensive catcher, Brewster led the

league in home runs and tied for the RBI lead.

Brewster also was the team’s leader in batting average, slugging

percentage and just about every other offensive category.

Junior shortstop Ryan Landry was selected as a second-team member.

Despite missing five games during the season, he finished tied for

fourth in the league in home runs and finished second on the team in

slugging percentage.

Three Breakers received all-league honorable mention. They were

senior pitcher/outfielder Jeff Bolar, junior pitcher/first baseman

Kevin Kelly and junior pitcher/outfielder Calvin Mead.

Bolar was the league leader in stolen bases, led the team in saves

and was second on the team in runs scored. Kelly was the team’s top

pitcher in its rotation and led in innings-pitched, starts, complete

games, strikeouts, and he tied for first in wins. Mead also had an

outstanding year as the team’s No. 2 pitcher and had the team’s best

earned run average. He also finished on offense with the team’s

second-highest batting average.

The only senior on the team to be selected all-league in 2005,

Bolar was invited to play in the Senior Showcase All-Star Game on

June 11 at Ryan Lemmon Stadium in Irvine. The annual all-star event

is composed of all-league seniors from four south Orange County

leagues: Pacific Coast, Century, Sea View and South Coast.

First-year Laguna coach Dave Dopf helped coach the Pacific Coast

League team in its game against the Century League. Bolar played five

solid innings, which included pitching a scoreless seventh inning and

stealing a base in his final performance as a prep athlete.
