Speeding Mustang, Ferrari cause crash

The southbound lanes of North Coast Highway were closed for

several hours Saturday night, June 11, when two speeding cars caused

an accident that left debris strewn across the roadway, police said.

A Ford Mustang and a Ferrari were reportedly racing at speeds in

excess of 100 mph at 8:30 p.m. when the cars entered the dip near

Emerald Bay and the driver of the Mustang hit a Honda from behind,

police said.

The Honda was hit so hard the rear bumper was pressed against the

front seats, police said. The driver of the Honda was hospitalized

with only minor injuries.

The passenger of the Mustang had to be cut out of the car using

the Jaws of Life, police said. Neither the driver nor the passenger

of the Mustang were critically injured, police said.

The Ferrari did not stop after the collision and police were

unable to locate the car, police said.

The Mustang driver was taken into police custody and charged on

suspicion of drunken driving and causing bodily injury to others,

police said.
