Di Giulio in final

Newport Coast resident Joseph Di Giulio, 10, will play for his second

straight Southern California Tennis Association junior sectional

championship in boys 10s singles today.

Di Giulio, the top seed, defeated fifth-seeded Garrett Auproux of

Studio City, 6-1, 6-3, in a semifinal Friday at Los Caballeros

Racquet and Sports Club.

Di Giulio will face Santa Barbara’s Stefan Menichella, the No. 3

seed, in the final at 10:30 a.m. today at the same site.

Ranked No. 14 in Southern California boys 12s by SCTA, Di Giulio

has not lost a set in the tournament.

Corona del Mar’s Cierra Gaytan-Leach, No. 3-seeded, lost in a

girls 14s quarterfinal match to eighth-seeded Lacey Smyth of

Oceanside, 6-2, 6-2, Friday at Los Caballeros.

Gaytan-Leach will play a consolation quarterfinal match at noon

today at Costa Mesa Tennis Center.
