Eight hurt when convertible smashed into Costa Mesa nail salon

Wednesdy

Eight people were injured Wednesday when a car hopped a curb and

plowed through three businesses, including a busy nail salon.

The driver of a white Mercedes-Benz convertible, Linda Mongno, 49,

of Newport Beach, told police the accelerator stuck when she was

trying to park at the Bristol Street and Jamboree Road strip mall.

The car smashed through the front window of an empty business,

crashed through a wall into the Lovely Nails salon and burst through

the wall of Planet Beauty. Two people were taken to hospitals with

injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

“All of a sudden the wall started flying,” said Evelyn Britton,

who was getting a salon treatment. “I don’t know if part of the wall

hit me or the car, but it threw me to the back of the store.”
