The Fountain Valley Pony Baseball Mustang A All-Star team, composed

of players from Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley, began

postseason tournament play in Dana Point with two impressive

victories.

The team opened the tournament with a 10-4 win over Tustin and

followed that with another double-digit offensive explosion in a 12-8

triumph over Newport Harbor.

In beating Tustin, Wyatt Christensen scored three runs while Joey

De Marco doubled and scored a run to lead the Fountain Valley

offense. Defensively, Patrick Cromwell, Wyatt Heise and Johnny

Marriott kept Tustin in check.

Nestor Linares closed out the game with “stellar pitching,”

Fountain Valley coach Jim De Marco said. De Marco shared coaching

duties with Mike Weaver and Rick Christensen.

In the 12-8 win over Newport Harbor, Scotty Weaver and Jacob Vega

scored three runs each, and Brett Adams singled and doubled to

highlight the Fountain Valley offense. Brad Owen made some run-saving

scoops at first base and Alek Torgersen’s speed enabled him to run

down every fly ball he tracked.

On the mound, Jacob Peralta used an arsenal of effective pitches

to stymie Newport Harbor.
