The summer Little League tournament season heats up this week with

the staging of the annual District 62 All-Star Tournament in Majors,

9 & 10 and Junior division play.

Tournament play continues today at both Mile Square Park in

Fountain Valley for the Area 1 competition, and the Area 2 side of

the bracket will be played at Huntington Valley Little League.

The double-elimination tournament got underway Wednesday, as

Robinwood took on Ocean View and Seaview battled Costa Mesa American

in Majors Division first-round action. Ocean View played Fountain

Valley and Seaview played Costa Mesa American in 9 & 10 Division

first-round play, and Westminster played Fountain Valley in a

first-round game of the Junior Division tournament.

Scores not available at press time.

The championship series in the Majors and 9 & 10 Divisions will be

played at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley.

Westminster Little League is hosting the Junior Division

tournament, a five-team event featuring all-star teams from

Westminster, Fountain Valley, Huntington Valley, Robinwood and

Seaview.

District 62 is composed of Little League teams from Costa Mesa

American, Costa Mesa National, Fountain Valley, Huntington Valley,

Ocean View, Robinwood, Seaview and Westminster.

The all-star tournament comes on the heels of the

single-elimination Tournament of Champions.

The Costa Mesa American Angels won the first District 62 title for

a Costa Mesa team in tournament history by blanking the Ocean View

Indians, 9-0. Costa Mesa American concluded its year with a 23-1

record.

The Costa Mesa National Dodgers also won a district title -- also

believed to be a first for the league -- in Minor A Division play by

defeating the Fountain Valley Cubs, 9-1.

The Minor B title went to Huntington Valley, which shut out Ocean

View, 7-0.
