Grand marshals

SHIRLEY DETLOFF

Former Huntington Beach mayor Shirley Detloff has been chosen the

community grand marshal of the Huntington Beach Fourth of July

parade.

Detloff has dedicated more than 40 years of service serving as a

member of the City Council -- including mayor -- for eight years, the

city’s Planning Commission and the California Coastal Commission. She

helped create the Human Relations Commission and the Interfaith

Council to foster diversity in the community.

Detloff is a founding member of the Amigos de Bolsa Chica, has

served on boards of the Huntington Valley Boys & Girls Club and the

Orange County Sanitation District, and has volunteered for the League

of Women Voters, the Shipley Nature Center, the Art Center and

chamber of commerce.

JON VON HOLLE

Union president and Public Works employee John H. Von Holle is

this year’s Bill Gallienne Award recipient. Von Holle has dedicated

more than 25 years to at the parade, overseeing shuttle services

during the Fourth of July celebration. In addition, Von Holle is a

volunteer coordinator for the Pacific Shoreline Marathon and serves

as the president of the Huntington Beach Municipal Employees Assn.,

as well as the vice president of the Huntington Beach High School

Football Boosters.

STAN CHAMBERS

Television newsman Stan Chambers is this year’s parade grand

marshal. Chambers began his career with KTLA-TV in 1947, when there were only about 300 TV sets in the L.A. area. Hisreporting

accomplishments are a modern history of Southern California. His

biggest stories include the Tehachapi and Sylmar earthquakes, the

Baldwin Hills Dam disaster, the Watts riots, the first televised

atomic bomb blast in Yucca Flat, Nev., in 1952, and the Robert

Kennedy assassination.

SEAN “HOLLYWOOD” HAMILTON

Sean “Hollywood” Hamilton of KRTH-FM (101.1) is a celebrity grand

marshal. Hamilton has been one of the most recognizable names in

national radio.

SAMANTHA STANDER

Celebrity guest Samantha Stander is the executive producer of

“Hollywood Hamilton and the K-EARTH 101 Morning Crew” on KRTH-FM

(101.1).She has also produced a series of charity concerts and

several pilots for ESPN, MTV, FOX and a host of other cable networks.

RAUL R. RODRIGUEZ

Celebrity guest Raul Rodriguez is an artist and conceptual

designer. His specialty has been the annual Tournament of Roses

Parade, where he has won more awards than any other designer in the

115-year history of the parade.

His concepts have illuminated casinos in Las Vegas and Reno,

including the Flamingo Hilton, the Tropicana and Caesar’s Palace.

Rodriguez has designed for scores of grand-scale events, such as the

opening stage set of the world’s fair in New Orleans. He was art

director for the “We the People 2000” parade in Philadelphia and a

consultant to the 1984 Olympic games in Los Angeles.

CHIP FOOSE

Custom car fans of all ages will recognize celebrity guest Chip

Foose from his television series “Overhaulin” on The Learning

Channel.

Foose is the pioneer behind Foose Design, an automotive and

product design company in Huntington Beach Throughout the course of

Foose’s career, he has been honored with the Guys Street Rod of the

Year award seven times.

He is a member of the Hot Rod Hall of Fame and, in 2002, was

inducted into the Darryl Starbird Rod & Custom Car Museum Hall of

Fame.

BETHANY HAMILTON

At age 5, Hamilton knew she wanted to be a competitive surfer. In

2003, at the age of 13, she finished second in the National

Scholastic Surfing Assn. Nationals. Later that year, she was attacked

by a shark and lost her arm in the near-fatal attack.

Hamilton’s love for surfing did not deter her ambition and six

months after the attack, she surfed in the nationals.

Hamilton is now producing a feature film based on her best-selling

book “Soul Surfer.” Winner of awards from Teen Choice, ESPN and USA

Today, Hamilton also likes to swim with manatees and drink smoothies.
