Lawler third

Scott Lawler, who just completed his sophomore year at Newport Harbor

High, finished third in the 16 and under age group in the Escape from

Alcatraz Triathlon in San Francisco June 12.

Lawler, 16, finished the 27.5 mile triathlon in three hours, 11

minutes, 15 seconds.

Lawler competes in cross country for the Sailors an was on the

water polo team as a freshman.

The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon -- ranked as the most

challenging triathlon in the country by Triathlon Magazine, ahead of

Hawaii’s Ironman Triathlon -- starts with a 1.5-mile swim from

Alcatraz to the St. Francis Yacht Club, transitions into an 18-mile

bike ride through the hills of the Presidio and Golden Gate Park and

finishes with an 8-mile run.
