Think younger, Triangle Square

I have watched the steady deterioration of Triangle Square from its

inception. I believe that the problem has always been that the movie

theater has never been, by itself, a strong enough attraction for

young people. There are many movie theaters not far away that exist

in a far more exciting ambience of restaurants and shopping. I

believe that Triangle Square cannot compete with them directly.

Rather, I think that Triangle Square needs to become a destination

center for young people seeking entertainment of a more active

nature. I would like to see a bowling alley there. I would like to

see a roller rink there. For the somewhat older young people, I would

like to see a nightclub that provides food and dancing and pool

tables and that offers disco nights, Latin dance nights and karaoke

nights.

With these larger destination tenants in place, I think that

suitable smaller tenants would not be hard to find. I think that a

unitary approach rather than a tenant-by-tenant approach would pay

off. Periodic meetings of all the tenants would be a good idea to

reinforce the appeal to young people, to stay focused on the message.

Ultimately I would like to see a grand reopening with a common theme:

Come to Triangle Square for a good time.

Please continue to keep us informed. I am eager to hear about

other ideas and the progress that is being made. I sincerely hope

that Costa Mesa Mayor Allan Mansoor and the City Council stay

informed and involved.
