Get wild at the Festival of Arts
From noon to 4 p.m. Saturday the Festival of Arts is having its
annual day of exotic animals coming to the grounds for their “Walk on
the Wild Side.”
Wild kingdom guests include a baby giraffe, capuchin monkey,
kinkajou, coatimundi, wallaby, binturong, serval cat, kookaburra,
albino Burmese python and more.
Wildlife artist Julita Jones will capture the beauty of wildlife
through printmaking and a Caribbean steel drum band will provide the
live music.
The event is free with Festival of Arts admission, $7 for general
admission and $5 for seniors and students. Laguna Beach locals get
free admission every day with proper identification.

Kathryn Grimm performs
Singer-songwriter Kathryn Grimm is performing regularly at the
Sawdust Art Festival. Her schedule is as follows: 5 to 9 p.m. Sat.,
July 16, (solo); noon to 4 p.m. Mon., July 25 (duet); 12:30 to 4 p.m.
Wed., August 3 (solo); 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sun., August 14, (duet); and
12:30 to 4 p.m. Sat., August 26, (solo).
“Grimm Again,” her recently released, 10-song CD, has received
critical praise. Grimm’s guitar skills and voice have backed many
artists, including Bo Diddley, Elvis Costello, and Michael Bolton.
She is also a published songwriter whose music has been featured in
numerous soundtracks and commercials.
Wyland holds fundraiser
Wyland Foundation is hosting a benefit fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m.
Sunday in support of clean water education, which includes a live art
and silent auction, a Wyland art demonstration and a question and
answer session. Food, wine, hors d’oeuvres, chocolates and a coffee
bar will be offered. The Ocean Institute located at 24200 Dana Point
Harbor Drive in Dana Point will be hosting the event. Cocktail attire
is suggested.
A minimum donation of $125 includes membership to the Wyland
Foundation. The VIP level donation of $1,000 includes a Dolphin
Harbor Cruise with Wyland on board. Limited space is available. For

Laguna bands perfom at Festival
The Laguna Community Concert Band and Swing Set Band concert dates
for the summer: 5:30 p.m. July 17 at the Festival of Arts; 12 p.m.
July 23 at the Art-A-Fair; 5:30 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Festival of Arts.
The band will perform selection from the big band era, show and pop
tunes, Dixieland and Sousa and concert band classics. Information:

Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting
Fifty of the best plein air painters are in Laguna through Sunday
for the 7th annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Invitational hosted by
Laguna Art Museum and Laguna Plein-Air Painters Association.
The “Quick Draw Paint Out” is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Artists have a two-hour time limit to paint a park scene. For the
first time, an auction of the works will immediately follow at the
museum.
The museum will host the Gala Dinner and Collectors Preview Sale,
which includes hors d’oeuvres, fine wines and dinner from 6 to 10
p.m. Saturday.
The event closes Sunday with the plein-air paintings on exhibit
and for sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum.

Laguna Beach Film Society
The Laguna Beach Film Society is having a screening of “To You
Sweet Heart Aloha” at 7 p.m. July 21 at South Coast Cinema, 162 S.
Coast Highway. After the screening of the film students of the Oasis
Senior Center of Newport Beach will perform a Ukelele Concert.
