Ramon Delgado continued his torrid streak in men’s singles, defeating

2003 U.S. Open champion Andy Roddick, 5-3, in helping secure Newport

Beach’s 22-20 World Team Tennis overtime victory over host St. Louis

Saturday night.

The Breakers (6-2) won their fourth straight match and vaulted

into first place by a half-match over Sacramento and St. Louis in the

Western Conference.

Newport won just two matches against St. Louis (6-3), but the the

margin of victory proved the difference. Delgado remained unbeaten in

singles sets this year with his victory over Roddick while teammates

Anastassia Rodionova and Katerina Bondarenko tallied a 5-2 win

against Jamea Jackson and Jennifer Russell in women’s doubles.

The Aces needed tiebreakers to win mixed doubles, women’s singles

and men’s doubles matches.

The Breakers conclude their four-match road trip against

Springfield, Mo., at 7:05 Central time tonight before returning home

to face Kansas City Tuesday at 7 p.m.
