Here are some items the Planning Commission will consider tonight.

RESTAURANT APPEAL

A homeowner on 62nd Street has appealed the planning director’s

June 6 decision that Salud Restaurant can change from primarily a

take-out establishment to a full-service restaurant. The restaurant

property owner, Michael Hoskinson, wants to expand a take-out Thai

eatery to create a dining room, a bar and a second-floor office. The

restaurant would also be open until 11 p.m., an hour later than it

closes now.

Nicholas Hamilton, who lives nearby, appealed the expansion permit

because he believes the restaurant would not have enough parking,

would generate noise and would interfere with ocean views.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The staff recommendation is to reject the appeal and to allow the

restaurant expansion.

HOAG TRAFFIC STUDY

The Planning Commission will decide whether to accept a traffic

study on 130,000 square feet of outpatient facilities to be built on

Hoag Hospital’s lower campus, which lies mainly along West Coast

Highway.

The new facilities are expected to be finished by 2007 and would

generate nearly 2,400 car trips per day, but that’s not expected to

significantly snarl traffic at 15 nearby intersections.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Planning staff members recommend approving the study, which found

the new Hoag building would not have a major effect on traffic.

CONDO CONVERSION

The owner of an eight-unit apartment complex on Domingo Drive

wants to convert the units to condos for sale. Extensive renovations

are planned, including a fountain and a kiosk at the entrance, new

windows and landscaping, and large decks.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Staff members suggest that the commission approve the conversion

of the Domingo Villas from rental housing to condos.
