Football camp opens Saturday

West Football Camps will conduct its fourth annual Fundamental

Youth Football camp beginning Saturday at Edison High.

The camp, open to youth aged 7-14, is a two-day camp and concludes

on Monday. Instruction will be given by former NFL players and local

high school players, and the cost is $170 per camper.

Long Board Classic returns

The 2005 Surfer Joe’s Summer Long Board Classic will be held

Saturday for the 11th consecutive year at Sunset Beach.

The contest begins at 6:30 a.m. at 9th Street in Sunset Beach and

this year features more than 100 surfers 100 surfers competing for a

grand prize of more than $2,000.

Competition will be held in four categories: Women’s, Amateur,

Masters (over 40) and Professional.

Last year’s classic drew more than 80 surfers from Southern and

Northern California, San Diego, Hawaii and Alaska.

The contest is open to all females, providing tasteful attire is

worn. Open registration will be taken the day of the event.

Magic Johnson

at Sports Chalet

Former Los Angeles Laker and NBA Hall of Fame player Magic Johnson

will be in Huntington Beach Sunday when he teams with Sports Chalet

to offer kids a chance to “Take Magic to School” for a day.

The special event will run from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sports Chalet,

located at 16242 Beach Blvd.

Johnson will sign autographs for the first 300 fans who purchase a

pair of Magic32 sneakers.

To win a chance to “Take Magic to School,” kids just have to try

on a pair of shoes (no purchase necessary) and fill out an entry form

between Sunday’s appearance and September 5. One lucky student will

win a chance to take Johnson to school for a day.

Johnson and Sports Chalet’s CEO, Craig Levra, will also welcome

the Junior Achievement Group and provide each child with a pair of

Magic32

sneakers.

Baseball camp

opens Monday

Rich Amaral Baseball Camps will conduct the second of two summer

camp session beginning Monday for youth ages six to 12.

The camp runs through July 29 and will be held on the playing

fields at Ocean View Little League.

Times for the camp are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and from 1:15 to 2:30

p.m. for a Double Header Club.

The fee per participant for one camp is $185, with an additional

$65 required per player who wishes to participate in the Double

Header Club.

Summer session at water polo club set

Golden West Water Polo Club, a year-round competitive water polo

team, is running its summer session now through Aug. 21.

The club is open to youth ages 7-14 and athletes must be able to

swim 25-yards.

The second session currently is in progress and runs though July

31. A third session will run from Aug. 1-21, from 5-7 p.m. every

Tuesday and Thursday at Golden West

College.
