LAGUNA ART MUSEUM

“Surf Culture Redux” is on exhibit through Oct. 5. “Surf Culture

Redux” is a reconfiguration of the iconic works from the museum’s

most well-attended show in its history, “Surf Culture -- The Art

History of Surfing.” Past, present and future links between surfing

and art are explored through works of art by surfers and artists

influenced by surfing.

“While Pollock Was Sleeping: Bay Area Abstract Expressionism from

the Blair Collection:” will open July 31 and run through Oct. 2.

The Blair Collection provides a rich view of California Abstract

Expressionist painting from 1948 to 1964. Many paintings in the

collection have not been displayed for more than 40 years. The

collection includes a few easily recognizable names, but many more of

the works in the exhibition are by artists who are lesser known but

equally significant to the California-based “Second Wave” of Abstract

Expressionist painting.

Laguna Plein Air Painters Association

More than 30 recent oil paintings by artist Joyce Sung will be on

exhibit at the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association Studio today

through July 28 with a preview from 6 to 9 p.m. today and an artist

reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Sung is an emerging oil painting artist who primarily paints

landscape and flowers.

Sung learned Chinese Brush Painting at 18. She later studied

drawing and oil painting with Yi-Fu Zhao, an artist from China. She

has many group art exhibitions and solo exhibitions in LA and Orange

County and is a member of Laguna Plein Air Painters Association.
