OUT OF AFRICA

Cathy and Scott Palmer, fellows at Sherman Library and Gardens,

will give a presentation on “Twenty Days in Africa.” Join the Palmers

for an evening of African flora and fauna, cultural revelations, and

new meaning to the words “roughing it.”

The discussion and slide presentation will be given at 7:30 p.m.

at Sherman Library and Gardens, 2647 Coast Highway East, Corona del

Mar. It is free and open to the public.

MOVIE SURFING

Quiksilver teams with the Balboa Performing Arts Theater to

present a free family movie night, featuring the premiere of the surf

documentary “Young Guns 2.”

The screening takes place on a giant outdoor screen at Peninsula

Park, located by the Balboa Pier in Newport Beach, and Quiksilver

athletes will be on hand to sign autographs.

At 6:30 p.m., the event opens for picnicking, with autograph

signing and prizes at 7 p.m. and the film at 8:15 p.m.

FILLING CANVAS

Artists, photographers, and sculptors from the local community

will be featured at “CANVAS at NEWPORT-MESA,” an art exhibition,

photo gallery and sculpture/ceramics exhibit. CANVAS will take place

from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Gathering Place, an open-air patio on

the campus of Vanguard University.

CANVAS will also feature local jazz saxophonist Rick Arbuckle.

Exhibitors will sell selected works and will donate a portion of the

proceeds to Local and Global Outreach Ministries of Newport Mesa. The

community is invited at no charge.
