A Huntington Beach man drove a car through a barricade and onto the

sand near lifeguard headquarters at the Newport Beach pier Monday

afternoon.

The car, a gray BMW, was reported stolen from a garage at a home

in Balboa Coves just an hour earlier, Newport Beach Police Sgt. Bill

Hartford said.

“I was afraid he was going to hit me,” said Carol Cedeno, of

Chicago, whose beach chair was positioned several feet from where the

car came to a stop.

Spencer Lewis Voglin, 21, was taken into custody.

He is being held on suspicion of residential burglary.

Voglin also was arrested on Sunday for driving recklessly in

Huntington Beach, Hartford said.
