Players sought for AYSO Region 86

AYSO Region 86 of Laguna Beach is still conducting registration

through Sunday for its fall 2005 season.

AYSO is a nonprofit organization. Everyone plays, and no

experience is necessary.

Registration packets are available in town at Golden Spoon or

online at www.ayso86.org.

In addition, players wishing to brush up on their skills can

register for one of the region’s camps that will run Aug. 8 through

12 and Aug. 22 through 26 at Alta Laguna Park. Information can be

found at the AYSO Region 86 website.

Coaching spots open at high school

Laguna Beach High is seeking coaches in eight sports for the

upcoming 2005-06 school year, said Ron Schwartz, the school’s

athletic director.

Schwartz said the following coaching positions are open: assistant

varsity football, including head freshman coach; assistant

volleyball, boys and girls; assistant track and cross country, boys

and girls; assistant tennis, boys and girls; assistant soccer, boys

and girls; assistant water polo, boys and girls; assistant softball

coach.

Hoops camp begins Monday at Thurston

Bret Fleming’s Summer Basketball Camp opens Monday at the Thurston

Middle School gymnasium.

The camp runs through Aug. 5.

Fleming is the head boys’ basketball coach at Laguna Beach High.

The camp is open to youth who will enter grades four through eight

in the 2005-06 school year.

The camp will run each day from 9 a.m. to noon, and campers are

encouraged to bring a snack and bottle of water.

Camp highlights include developing individual skills,

participating in team play and practicing good sportsmanship,

learning the Laguna Beach High basketball system, team practice,

competition and games, concluding with championship competitions.

The cost is $225 per camper and $150 per additional family member.

Tennis classes offered for locals

The Laguna Beach Recreation Dept. is offering a two-week summer

tennis session beginning Monday and running through Aug. 11.

Pee Wee, Junior and Teen classes are offered at both the beginner

and intermediate levels, and Competitor classes for players ages

eight to 16.

Private lessons also are available.

In other tennis news, Junior Team Tennis is looking for players

ages eight to 14. The season runs September to Thanksgiving.

Soccer camp dates approaching

The All England Soccer Academy has announce the dates for its

upcoming summer soccer camps.

The camps, open to youth ages six to 15 and for players of all

abilities, will be held Aug. 8 to 12, Aug. 15 to 19 and Aug. 29 to

Sept 2. Each camp session will run from 9 a.m. to noon at Moulton

Meadows Park.

In other soccer news, the Laguna Beach Soccer club still has one

or two positions available for dedicated, quality soccer players for

its boys’ teams in divisions Under-9 through Under-15. For tryout

Pop Warner teams seeking coaches

South Coast Pop Warner Football and Cheer still is accepting

applications for head coaching and assistant coaching positions.

Interested parties need not have a child in the league to coach.

In addition, limited football player and cheer signups are still

available for youth ages five to 15.
