SAILING CLASSES

A Basic Marine Weather class is being offered by Orange Coast

college’s School of Sailing and Seamanship. The six-week course

focuses on the fundamentals of meteorology and explores the driving

forces of weather, the characteristics and movement of high and low

pressure systems, associated fronts and cloud formation. The class

meets Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 28 through Sept. 1 at the

college’s sailing center, 1801 Coast Highway West, Newport Beach.

An Advanced Shields class is being offered by the Orange Coast

College School of Sailing and Seamanship. This course is designed for

sailors with intermediate shields skills. The class will meet

Saturdays from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. July 30 to Aug. 13 at the

college’s sailing center, 1801 Coast Highway West, Newport Beach.

A basic cruising exam will be offered by the Orange Coast College

School of Sailing and Seamanship from 1:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 13

at the college’s sailing center, 1801 Coast highway West, Newport

A Basic Cruising II class is being offered by Orange Coast

College’s School of Sailing and Seamanship. This course is designed

for people seeking Basic Cruising Certification. Classes will meet

from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays July 23 through Aug. 6 at the

college’s sailing center, 1801 Coast Highway West, Newport Beach.

Summer courses at Rabbit Island are being offered by the Orange

Coast College School of Sailing and Seamanship. Rabbit Island is

located approximately 50 miles north of Vancouver and was donated to

the college in 2003. It is home to the college’s Wheeler Research

Station. Courses offered this summer include Field Archeology, Island

Ecology and Special Projects Photography. For a full list of classes,
