Great Park report released

The Orange County Great Park Corporation has released its Community

Visioning Report that finds county residents prefer that open space,

public swimming pools, sports facilities, cultural and community

amenities, a major outdoor theater and botanical gardens be

considered in developing the Orange County Great Park.

Phase one of the community visioning process consisted of an

outreach program for county stakeholders and an opinion survey of the

general public. A stakeholders visioning process solicited park

design concepts and park elements of particular significance from a

broad range of individuals and organizations interested in the Great

Park.

More than 130 community leaders participated in nine focus group

planning sessions, over 200 individuals representing community

organizations were represented at the stakeholders conference, and

600 respondents contributed to the countywide public opinion poll.

The Great Park itself is being planned and developed by the Orange

County Great Park Corporation

‘Laguna’ cast stages slide fundraiser

Members of MTV’s “Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County” are

getting into the act of helping landslide victims.

Cast member Trey Phillips, founder of Active Young Americans, and

Loren Polster will sponsor the fundraiser for the Adopt-a-Landslide

Family campaign from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday at Seven-Degrees.

“So many young people wanted to help, so we organized this

fundraiser,” Phillips said.

The benefit is being held in conjunction with the filming of an

episode of MTV’s Laguna Beach reality drama.

The benefit will feature live bands, a silent and live auction, a

fashion show, food and drinks.

Seven-Degrees is donating the space. All proceeds will benefit the

victims of the June 1 Bluebird Canyon landslide.

Tickets can be purchased by check or cash only. Reserved seats are

$75 each, and general admission is $50 for adults and $10 for

students. A limited number of tickets are being sold at the Chamber

of Commerce, 357 Glenneyre St. Tickets will also be sold at the door

at Seven-Degrees, 891 Laguna Canyon Road. For more information, call

(949) 376-1555.

Homeowners with mysteries sought

Many homeowners have annoying mysteries in their homes -- an

unexplainable crack in the living room wall or a deck that is

curiously sinking. Homeowners who would like to solve the “mystery”

in their homes may be in luck. Horizon Entertainment is producing a

new home improvement mystery show for DIY Network and plans to film

in Laguna Beach this fall.

Producers are looking for homeowners with household mysteries to

appear on the show. If you are selected, the producers will bring a

certified home inspector to your home, identify the problem and work

to remedy the situation.

Orange County home inspector Rick Yerger will host the Laguna

Beach segments. Once the mystery is solved, Yerger will put on his

handyman hat and help remedy the homeowner’s situation. The new

26-part series will air on DIY Network in 2006.

Homeowners interested in applying to be on the show should e-mail

the producers at o7hdproduction@aol.comf7. Please include address,

phone numbers, and an e-mail address.
