Exhibit to feature Gabriel Picart

Fingerhut Gallery will host the first Southern California exhibit

by Gabriel Picart. Influenced by many of the art world’s greats,

Picart’s work is representational, with great use of light, in the

classic European tradition. Among the oil paintings included in the

show will be figurative works set in Barcelona and the island of

Minorca. Meet Picart at the opening reception from 7 to 9 p.m.

Grimm to perform at art festival

Singer-songwriter Kathryn Grimm is performing regularly at the

Sawdust Art Festival. She will play from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday, in

duet, and 12:30 to 4 p.m. Aug. 26, in solo.

“Grimm Again,” her recently-released, 10-song CD, has received

critical praise. Grimm’s guitar skills and voice have backed many

artists, including Bo Diddley, Elvis Costello and Michael Bolton. She

is also a published songwriter, whose music has been featured in

numerous soundtracks and commercials.

Bluebird Park concerts continue

Sunday marks the third concert of the eight-week season of the

2005 Summer Concert Series at Bluebird Park, with Eagle tribute band

Desperado on stage. California sounds by Ken Garcia are featured Aug.

21. The Neat plays the best of the ‘60s on Aug. 28, and Soundbytes

will play soul and popular music for the final Bluebird Park concert

Sept. 4.

Playhouse place

for new musical

“The Musical of Musicals -- The Musical” is being performed

through Sept. 4 at Laguna Playhouse. See the West Coast premiere of

the sensational new musical that celebrates and satirizes Rogers and

Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jerry Herman and

Kander and Ebb.

Veteran stage designer Todd Muffatti’s assemblages are currently

on display in the lobby of the Playhouse through Sept. 4. Using

everyday household and castoff objects, Muffatti creates wall

sculptures with architectural, interior design and theatrical

references.

Concert band to play at Festival of Arts

The Laguna Community Concert Band and Swing Set will play at 5:30

p.m. Sunday at the Festival of Arts. The band will perform selections

from the big band era, show and pop tunes, Dixieland and Sousa and

Rose Garden has jazz, wine, tapas

Laguna Beach Live presents Jazz in the Rose Garden with the Latin

Asian Arts day at Festival of Arts

The Festival of Arts is having its Asian Arts day from noon to 4

p.m. Aug. 20, bringing a variety of traditions and customs and the

diversity of Japanese, Korean, Balinese, Chinese and Indian cultures,

featuring traditional dance and music, including Daion Taiko drummers

Event activities feature hands-on Japanese Raku pottery workshops,

Chinese Brush Stroking and printmaking.

Festival features ongoing events

Every Thursday and Saturday music is in the air. Thursdays offer

the Wine Tasting and Jazz Series,” 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sundays from 2

to 4 p.m. is the time for the Sunday Afternoon Blues Festival. Laguna

Culinary Arts also has cooking demonstrations from 1 to 2 p.m. every

Sunday.

The Festival of Arts offers a season pass for $7 for adults and $5

for seniors and students. Laguna Beach residents and children under

Museum art auction submissions needed

Laguna Art Museum is looking for art submissions for its newly

formatted 23rd annual auction. Art will be judged by a jury

consisting of art gallery owners from all over California. Art

selected by the jury will be displayed on a yearlong, online virtual

exhibition. Three cash awards will be offered to participating

artists.

Deadline for art submissions is Aug. 26. A total of two works of

art can be submitted through digital images only. An entry form and
