Woman allegedly admits to shoplifting clothing

A 36-year-old Chula Vista woman who stole more than $700 worth of

merchandise from a Laguna Beach clothing boutique agreed to repay the

store for its losses, police said.

Employees of the Little Bohemian, located at the corner of Beach

Street and Ocean Avenue, reported noticing empty coat hangers while

the woman was shopping in the store June 4, police said.

The woman was carrying a medium-sized purse and was wearing a

coat, something employees thought was odd for the weather, police

said.

“They thought it was weird during the warm weather and especially

because she had a sweater tied around her waist,” said Sgt. Darin

Lenyi.

The woman purchased several items, totaling more than $200, with

her credit card, police said. After she made the purchase, store

employees asked to check the woman’s bag and she refused, police

said.

When employees called police and reported the woman’s suspicious

behavior, detectives tracked the woman down in Chula Vista, Lenyi

said.

The woman admitted to detectives that she shoplifted $778 in

clothing items from the Little Bohemian in June and agreed to pay for

the items, Lenyi said.

“Because she was truthful, the store just wanted restitution,”

Lenyi said.

Sewage spill is cause for beach closure

Orange County Environmental Health closed 300 feet of shoreline at

Brooks Street on Thursday due to a 25-gallon sewage spill from a

blockage in a private sewage line. The area will remain closed until

O.C. Environmental Health determines the water meets safety

standards.
