Koll Company hires four new executives

The Koll Company, a Newport Beach real estate firm, announced the

hiring of four executives Aug. 15.

Bill Larkin, a UCLA graduate and licensed real estate broker, was

hired as acquisition and development manager. His duties will include

running the company’s daily acquisitions activities.

New leasing manager Donna Harper was attached to the company’s

75-acre airport business center in Irvine. Harper previously worked

for Newport Beach-based Olen Properties.

Vanderbilt University graduate Scott Meserve was hired as

development manager. His assignments include finding new development

opportunities. Before being hired by the Koll Co., Meserve was

development manager for office and industrial properties at Santa

Ana-based Burke Real Estate Group.

Laurie Riddle was hired as senior paralegal to aid in the

acquisition of light industrial and undeveloped properties. She

previously worked as senior real estate paralegal for Louisville,

Kentucky-based fast-food company Yum Brands Inc.

Acacia Research Corp. reaches licensing deals

Newport Beach-based Acacia Research Corp. made three announcements

relating to licensing deals last week.

The company announced Friday that InternetAd Systems LLC, part of

the Acacia Technologies group, agreed to license Internet advertising

patents to Priceline.com. According to a release from Acacia, the

deal settled a patent infringement lawsuit Acacia had filed against

Priceline in Texas.

A deal between Acacia subsidiary VData LLC and Adidas-Saloman AG,

Adidas America Inc. and Paxar Corp. was announced Wednesday.

According to Acacia, this deal also resolved a patent infringement

case over multidimensional bar-code technology. Uses for

multidimensional bar codes include data collection, tracking the

movement of goods and anti-counterfeiting.

The third set of deals was announced Monday. In those agreements,

Acacia Media Technologies licensed Digital Media Transmission

technology to multiple media companies. The technology is used to

transmit digital audio and video via the Internet, cable and other

mediums. The media firms listed in the announcement were Gannett Co.

Inc., Internet Broadcasting Systems Inc., Journal Communications

Inc., Landmark Communications Inc., E.W. Scripps Company and the

Tribune Co. The Daily Pilot is owned by the Tribune Co.

Acacia Research Corp. acquires and licenses technology patents.

The company often uses lawsuits to enforce patents.
