COSTA MESA PLANNING COMMISSION WRAP-UP

o7Here are some items the Planning Commission considered Monday.f7

ZONING CODE CHANGES

The commission voted to hold off discussing proposed changes to

the city zoning code that would include allowing churches in some

commercial zones and banning chain-link fences on nonresidential

properties.

The changes, which were proposed as a package, would still need

City Council approval, but the commission postponed talking about

them after Mayor Allan Mansoor asked to pull the church zoning change

from the agenda to get more information.

Bill Perkins and Jim Fisler dissented.

WHAT IT MEANS

The city attorney’s office will give a briefing on the church

zoning proposal before the Sept. 26 meeting, when the four zoning

changes will be considered separately.

TRASH BINS

A measure requiring all trash bins in the city to be screened from

view will go to the City Council with the commission’s stamp of

approval. The initial proposal applied only to the Westside and was

part of a series of initiatives the council supported to improve that

part of the city.

WHAT IT MEANS

The council will take up the citywide trash bin screening

proposal, which could also include allowances for property owners who

would lose parking spots to trash bin enclosures.
