SATURDAY

PEACE VIGIL

The Laguna Beach Peace Vigil meets every Saturday from 11 a.m. to

1 p.m. at Main Beach. The group seeks nonviolent answers to global

SUNDAY

BASKETBALL

The public is invited to play basketball at Laguna Beach High

School. Full-court pickup games are played in the school’s gym from 9

a.m. to noon Sundays. Many former high school and college players

participate. The games are sponsored by the city’s recreation

department. Cost is $2 at the door, free for those aged 18 and under.

FOLK DANCING

Laguna Folkdancers offers instruction on various ethic dances from

7 to 10 p.m. through Dec. 18. $4 for drop-ins. Veterans Memorial

LABOR DAY HOLIDAY

City Hall, banks, government offices and the Post Office will be

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

Firefighters will flip flapjacks at the annual Labor Day Pancake

Breakfast sponsored by the Exchange Club. 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at

Heisler Park, corner of Myrtle Street and Cliff Drive. Cost is $5 per

person.

TUESDAY

BRIDGE CLUB

The Round Robin Bridge Club, sponsored by the Woman’s Club of

Laguna Beach, holds bridge games from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. every

first and third Tuesday of the month. The club is at 286 St. Ann’s

COMMUNITY CHORUS

Laguna Tunes Community Chorus invites people of all ages and

singing levels to join in the fun of performing a mix of musical

styles, including gospel, pop, musical comedy and classical. Chorus

HURRICANE BENEFIT

The Boys and Girls Club of Laguna Beach is sponsoring a yoga

benefit event to raise funds for the hurricane victims in New Orleans

and the Gulf Coast, at 9:30 a.m. at Main Beach, south of Hotel

Laguna. Bring a beach towel, water and wear sunscreen to participate

in yoga. Donations will be collected for the American Red Cross. More

HEALTH SUPPORT GROUPS

South Coast Medical Center offers a variety of free support groups

for people with medical challenges or their loved ones. A

Visualization and Relaxation Class meets in the Chapel every Monday

from 1-2 p.m.; an Eating Disorders Support Group for anyone suffering

from anorexia or bulimia meets in the Community Room on the second

and fourth Mondays of each month from 6:30-7:30 p.m.; the Parkinson’s

Disease Support Group meets the third Thursday of the month from

10:30 a.m. to noon in Classroom 4.

There are three Cancer Support Groups (a free consultation is

required before joining): A Breast Cancer group, meets every Monday

from 10-11 a.m.; a Family and Friends Group, meets every Monday from

2-4 p.m.; and a Patients’ Group meets every Monday from 2-4 p.m. All
