Best picture winner set for Sunday

“A Beautiful Mind,” directed by Ron Howard and starring Russell

Crowe and Jennifer Connelly, is the story of brilliant mathematician

John Nash Jr., who overcame mental illness to eventually receive the

Nobel Prize.

The movie is scheduled to be shown at 1 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Oasis

Senior Center, 800 Marguerite Ave., Corona del Mar.

Movies are shown every Sunday at the center and free movie snacks

are provided.

Swing band to perform Sept. 24

The Blue Pacific Swing Band, an 18-piece band that focuses on

swing music from the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s, will play from 7 to 10

p.m. Sept. 23 at the Oasis Senior Center.

Every month, the center holds an evening dance and brings in

popular local bands to perform.

The concert is open to people of all ages. Tickets are $5 in

advance and $10 at the door, and include a dance lesson. Refreshments

are served.

Parkinson’s support meeting is Thursday

The Parkinson’s Resource Organization is hosting a support group

meeting for caregivers, adult children and family members of loved

ones with the disease.

The next meeting, scheduled for Sept. 8, will feature Marilyn Van

Sant, who guides participants through positive discussions of

caregiver issues and responsibilities.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Oasis Senior Center, 800
