There are two schools of thought as to how to get the best shot. Some

photographers rely on equipment and technical knowledge, while others

rely on a good eye. Kent Treptow’s photo of Christopher Vensand, 9,

surfing off 28th Street, is an example of both. On one hand, this

image is completely reliant on equipment -- the use of a

sophisticated water housing. But Kent had many good images from the

surf session. What made this photo stand out was Christopher’s yellow

jersey on a bright red board. Both contrasted nicely with the dark

water and crisp, blue sky.
