Softball champs roll on

Regular season league champions Arbitech and Team Viagra continued

their winning ways in the city of Laguna Beach Community Service

Dept.’s summer 16-inch slow-pitch softball program.

Fourteen teams have qualified for upcoming postseason tournament

play in Monday through Thursday league play.

Postseason tournament qualifiers increased to 14 out of 16 slots,

with final week games in the Tuesday through Thursday Leagues on tap

and the Monday League with two weeks to play.

Arbitech 11, South Laguna Hamstrings 1

Thursday League regular-season winner Arbitech got the easy win

behind pitcher Jimmy Whalen’s four-hit performance on the mound to

remain perfect at 9-0.

Whalen limited the Hamstrings to just four singles and also came

up with an RBI single on offense in the first inning.

The bat of Ryan Neptune produced a pair of home runs and a

sacrifice fly, which led to five runs for Arbitech.

Teammates Art McGrath and Torin Pavia each hit solo home runs in

the fourth inning.

Team Viagra 12, Island Shade 10

By avenging an earlier 6-4 loss to Island Shade, Tuesday League

winner Team Viagra won its fifth straight game.

Tom Taylor and Bruce Aguinaldo each hit home runs to power Island

Shade to six first-inning runs. The team scored its final four runs

in the fourth inning behind home runs by Jeremiah Dietrich, Andy

Bunn, Coby Naess and Chuck Emanuele.

Taylor finished with three RBI and Aguinaldo had two RBI.

Team Viagra scored in each of the first five innings. Six batters

-- Glen Cercil, Cam Hamil, Teo Moore, Keith Mulvaney, Nate Pivaroff

and Derek Rowland -- hit home runs.

Hotwings 10, C-Dawgs 2

The Hotwings picked up their third consecutive victory by scoring

10 first-inning runs on nine hits.

The 12-hit attack was led by Trigg Garner, who hit a grand slam,

and John Jameson, who added a two-run double.

John Mallett and Frank Ranieri each hit home runs for the C-Dawgs.

Good, Bad and Ugly 10, Sandpiper 8

Good, Bad and Ugly scored three runs in their final at-bat to

overcome a one-run deficit and beat defending Tuesday League champion

Sandpiper.

Fred Mastin delivered the win for Good, Bad and Ugly by belting a

three-run home run.

In his previous at-bat, Mastin hit a grand slam to keep his team

in the game.

Ryan Neptune hit two home runs and singled twice in a

four-for-four game, and Mickey Allen went three for three with a home

run.

Courtesy Auto Body 12, Forty Majority 3

Courtesy Auto Body remained atop the Monday League standings by

recording its seventh straight victory.

Paul Corey allowed Forty Majority just five singles.

Jeff Pich singled four times for Courtesy Auto Body and Emilio

Bernal doubled and singled twice.

Rotary 13, Pancakes 10

Defending Thursday League champion Rotary, now playing in the

Monday League, got the three-run win despite being out-hit 14-9.

Among their nine hits was a pair of home runs by Jason Jarkarish,

who finished with five RBI, and Tory Thomas, who smashed a grand slam

and singled.

Jake Michel topped the 14-hit attack of the Pancakes with a

three-run home run and a single.

Puswatrkylegs 6, DUI Fighters 0

The South Laguna Puswatrkylegs needed just five hits to score six

runs in blanking their Monday League foe, the DUI Fighters.

John Reynard had two of those five hits, getting two home runs,

while leadoff batter Ethan Damoto had two singles.

Daryl Wallace doubled for the DUI Fighters.

Compound Fractures 5, Team Hobie 2

The victory assured the Compound Fractures a spot in the upcoming

postseason tournament.

Steve Hurst singled twice for the Compound Fractures, and Bob

Armstrong did the same for Team Hobie.

Ganahl Lumber 3, Used Cars 2

Ganahl Lumber scored all three of its runs in the third inning,

highlighted by a home run by Fred Bonn.

Used Cars leadoff batter Geoff Black doubled and singled.
